Our beloved director of 10 years is retiring, and the Broward Women’s Chorus is seeking a dynamic music professional to lead our chorus.
The Broward Women’s Chorus seeks an experienced Choral Director to supervise and conduct weekly Wednesday morning rehearsals and multiple performances from September to mid-May.
The Broward Women’s Chorus is a non-profit chorus of about 45 women who rehearse and perform two new programs each year. The performances include large venues with admission fees, including Sunshine Cathedral, as well as smaller locations such as assisted living facilities, libraries and other group settings. A holiday program is performed several times in December, and a themed program is sung multiple times in the spring and early fall. Performances may be daytime or evening.

Applicants should:
- Have a strong level of musicianship and singing skills.
- Have 3-plus years’ experience directing a chorus or equivalent experience.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in music, with emphasis in voice, choral or music education preferred, or have other musical training.
- Be a dynamic and charismatic leader with excellent rapport with singers and audience.
- Have a demonstrated ability to instruct and develop musical skills in amateur singers.
- Be able to commit to weekly rehearsals and a schedule of performances.
The Choral Director provides the following services:
- Prepares and directs weekly rehearsals 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays at Sunshine Cathedral, 1480 SW 9th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315. Additional time may be required for soloist auditions, sectional rehearsals, committee meetings and/or collaboration with the accompanist, other instrumentalists or board members.
- Prepares and directs any additional rehearsals he/she considers necessary.
- Auditions and voice-places new chorus members. The Choral Director auditions and approves for concert readiness any singing member of BWC who has missed more than two consecutive regular rehearsals, as needed.
- Conducts concerts at all performance venues. Performance schedules will be a collaborative venture, with agreement among the Choral Director, accompanist and performance committee.
- Provides rehearsal recordings with lyrics for each section (Soprano, Second Soprano, Alto) for all music in each regular concert season. Completed recordings for all sections are to be delivered at least two weeks before the seasons begin in September and January.
- Works with the Music Committee to select all music.
