Sylvia Rose Aycock is a Brazilian-American music educator and conductor devoted to creating beauty through collaboration with students, colleagues, and communities.
She is serving as interim director of the Broward Women’s Chorus through May 2026.
Sylvia is Executive Artistic Director of the Girl Choir of South Florida — the very organization that first sparked their love for choral singing. Ensembles under Sylvia’s direction are known for expressive sound, innovative programming, and a commitment to musical excellence. Notable performances for The Girl Choir include collaborations with the New World Symphony, Master Chorale of South Florida, the alt-indie rock band Kids Again, and appearances on WLRN’s Folk & Acoustic Music radio program.
In addition to their work with the Girl Choir, Sylvia is a sought-after guest conductor and clinician for honor choirs across Florida, known for inspiring students and helping them prepare for meaningful, high-impact performances. Sylvia also partners with local school music programs, offering workshops that support young singers in their musical development.
Earlier in their career, Sylvia led middle and high school choral programs in Orlando and Boca Raton, and founded a choir at the PACE Center for Girls in Tallahassee.
They earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Florida State University and are currently pursuing a Master of Music in Choral Conducting at Michigan State University.
Sylvia continues to perform professionally with All Saints Episcopal Church and the Festival Singers of Florida, deepening their lifelong commitment to meaningful and expressive musical experiences.
